Website Checklist
When you are working on a Web site, it's easy to lose sight of important details. As
design elements are moved around the page to improve esthetics, items can be left
out accidentally. Here is a checklist of important elements that every Web site
homepage should contain. Before you publish yours, check off each item:
Web Site Design - Building Your Website
1. Page Title:
The browser window should display your
site's title and a brief description. Use
language that will be informative in search
engines. (This is important for every page
on your site...don't let the browser window
say"blank page")
2. Logo:
Include your site name and/or logo in its
expected location: the top left hand corner
of the page.
3. Tag Line:
Identify what your site is all about,
preferably in a one sentence tagline.
4. Search Function:
If your site is search enabled, make sure
there is a search box on the homepage.
5. Contact Information / About Us
Contact information must be easy to find.
Users may want to know who you are and
why they should trust you. (You can easily
combine the About Us/Contact Us
information on one page)
6. Privacy Policy:
If you collect any information from your
users, have a clearly written and easily
found Privacy Policy.
7 Shopping Cart:
If you sell anything, there should be a link
to your shopping cart and/or account
information on every page.
8. Sign In/Log In
If your site requires users to log-in for
access, make the log-in area prominent on
the homepage.
9. Sign Up:
If you plan to solicit user e-mail addresses
for a newsletter ask for the sign up on
every page, including the homepage.
